It had been a long night for Pops. The police had not only searched his house immediately following the gun battle, but had returned twice since then, asking follow-up questions. But from what Pops could gather, they had very little to go on. The neighbors were apparently the ones that called the police because of the gunshots, but by the time the police arrived, the only thing found was a little bit of blood in the street and a bunch of cars and homes riddled with stray bullets. Apparently, two injured boys had been dropped off at the hospital. One of the boys was unable to speak and the other simply refused.

The police visits did not bother Pops as much as the fact that, nine hours later, the sons-of-bitches were still parked at both ends of the block, bringing almost all drug traffic to a halt. Out of the three customers who did summon up the courage to come through the back alley to the back door, only one of them was willing to wait while Pops took their money and caught a ride with a neighbor to the motel where Black and Sneaky were holed up.

Pops was definitely not used to having to do so much running around just to get high. Hopefully, things would soon return to normal and he could throw on his robe and go back to lording over his castle the way a king is supposed to.

A knock at the door interrupted his thoughts. As he walked over to look out the peephole, he thought to himself that some crack head must have had a lot of nerve to come to the front door with the police at both ends of the block. Hopefully, it was a customer with a pocketful of money. It sure would be nice to make another run to the motel.
